H2eart for Europe
The H2eart for Europe alliance was launched in January 2024 by ten leading European gas storage operators committed to decarbonisation and energy efficiency by contributing to the large-scale establishment and widespread expansion of underground hydrogen storage facilities through innovative development projects. Since its foundation, the association has grown by two members and HGS is now working with 11 members on a comprehensive European hydrogen storage strategy.
Objective: H2eart for Europe brings together
dedicated storage infrastructure operators from 7 Member States of the European
Union, united by a common goal: to design, build and efficiently operate
state-of-the-art underground hydrogen storage infrastructure.
The proper management of low-carbon gases,
including hydrogen, which are becoming more prevalent in systems, is crucial to
the decarbonisation of Europe's energy system.
This requires preparing the infrastructure and ensuring the necessary
flexibility, which can be fulfilled by underground storage. Development projects coordinated through the
members' proactive approach will ensure that renewable gases produced from
renewable energy sources can be stored and used cost-effectively and optimally.
